Stopping Climate Change is about Commercially Reasonable Business Models (a.k.a Money!)

--

Climate change is the defining issue of our time and we are at a defining moment. One of the areas where climate change has a dire impact isfood production and food security on an unprecedented scale.

According to the UN report, more than 800 million people were hungry in 2020. And because of the high cost of food, billions of people can’t eat healthy.

In addition, the food security situation and the nutritional status of the most vulnerable sections of society will likely worsen due to the economic and socio-economic effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

One of the most important aspects of sustainable food security is addressing food waste. Because every year more than 30% of the food produced by the world is lost or wasted.

There are several possible strategies to address this — including working directly with farmers to improve harvests or making infrastructure investments so that food can be produced more close to markets and consumers.

Yes, an efficient agriculture can help feed more people but the answer to food insecurity is not simply to produce more food, it is not a sustainable solution. Producers need to produce more but with less land and with a smaller environmental footprint.

We must realize that it is not possible to address issues such as national security, political stability, and economic growth without addressing food security. When people are hungry and don’t know where their next meal is coming from, the risks of civil unrest and political conflict escalate and threaten democratic governance.

Global food security requires a coordinated international response on several fronts.

Today we are facing such global challenges that exceed the ability of any nation to solve. Big problems like food insecurity are rarely solved by a single player. So I believe that we need global collaboration among entrepreneurs who can really bring forward their ideas that benefit humanity.

Without serious action today, I think it will be very difficult and expensive to cope with these effects in the future.

And why tody? I believe right now we have the tools, technology and knowledge to limit global warming and the impact of climate change. We just need commercially sustainable business models that can attract big business to get involved and invest in it, so it’s not just their corporate social responsibility that drives their actions.

A big hurdle entrepreneurs and innovators have to overcome in environmental and sustainable B2B is showing those businesses what their innovative product/solution can work and bring real value to business customers. So they invest in or buy it not just because their management may have a better feeling about doing something for the environment.
